Course Overview

The Bachelor of Environmental Health and Safety (Hons) ODL is a four-year undergraduate degree program designed to prepare students for careers in environmental health and safety. Offered by MAHSA University, this program utilizes an innovative teaching and learning approach through online and distance learning (ODL) delivery modes. Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) involves the study of public health sciences and practices that address all aspects of both the natural and built environments affecting human health and related community issues, while also promoting sustainable living conditions. Students will explore topics such as disease prevention and control, food safety and hygiene, drinking water quality and supply, solid waste management, pest and vector management, environmental health legislation, international health and management, wastewater treatment and management, occupational health and safety, risk management and assessment, emergency response management, industrial hygiene, and environmental health activities conducted by local authorities. The field of environmental health encompasses a wide range of activities and is poised for future advancements and technological innovations. There is a growing demand for expertise in the EHS field, both locally and globally. EHS graduates are highly sought after in various industrial and manufacturing sectors, including government-linked agencies. At MAHSA, we have taken proactive steps to align with the global and national vision for the current and future industrial revolution by developing competent graduates equipped with well-rounded qualities, necessary skills, and the talent to lead in the evolving environmental health and safety landscape. The ODL teaching methods include lecture and tutorial sessions conducted on an e-learning platform. Self-instructional materials are uploaded to the online forum in advance of lectures or tutorials. Integrative teaching approaches, including discussions and seminars, are facilitated on this platform, with lecturers using case scenarios to enhance learning. Practical sessions will be conducted through face-to-face teaching, allowing for the demonstration of hands-on skills.
